Dealing with older buildings always requires a sensitive approach, so when we were asked to decorate a Grade II listed building in Leeds for luxury lifestyle retailer Michael Kors, we knew it would require something special.
Established in 1981, the award-winning Michael Kors brand sells accessories, footwear, watches, jewellery, men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and more under its own distinctive luxury label. It therefore needed us to deliver a distinctive store fit to complement the products and cement its reputation within the fashion industry.
Since many Michael Kors products are made from leathers and exotic skins, it asked for a reptilian-style vinyl wall covering for the store. This is an unusual material in the UK, but we were able to gain experience with the product and achieve a high-quality finish for the client. This was the first of the client’s stores in the UK, so achieving a quality result and meeting a tight schedule were essential. Success with the Leeds store has led to our being awarded contracts for work on the brand’s other stores in the UK as well as projects in Europe.
