We were approached by Rapid whilst decorating a Tesco Express store, adjacent to their old premises. The enquiry was to price for the external painting of their new store in Basnett Street, Liverpool. This project was something that we wanted to get involved in as Rapid is a very well known, local family hardware business. The premises they have located to were once the George Henry Lee store (John Lewis Partnership) and are very well known in the area, with a significant amount of foot flow past the store from Church Street to Williamson Square and all around towards the St Johns Centre.
The scope of work was to give the exterior of the store a fresh look, whilst keeping the original feel of the property. There were also some minor works within the main stairwell of the building. Once we were given the go-ahead, we applied for the license to use our mobile scaffold structure and started discussions with the Rapid management, regarding the colours to be used. As the new store was having a large amount of internal shop fitting, with full bathrooms and
kitchens being installed, we agreed with Rapid that it be best for us to start on the exterior, moving inside when things had slowed down on the inside.
Rapid asked for a black and white colour scheme, changing from the John Lewis green, also to tie in with the new signage which they are installing.
We recommended the use of Dulux Weathershield, undercoat and gloss and proceeded in undercoating all of the window frames, panels, sills, shutters and fascia in dark grey undercoat. Once we had undercoated all around, we started on the gloss work.
Once the gloss work was complete, we set to work on the Georgian entrance doors, for which we recommended the use of Sikkens exterior Filter 7 woodstain. This was on the basis of keeping the original appearance of the beautiful wooden surfaces, but with a cleaner, brighter, more durable finish. Once the shopfitting had been completed we moved to the inside.
